Is it safe to travel to Uganda?

Fortunately Kampala is one of the safest cities in Africa; in fact, 99% of visitors leave the country without any issues. We, however, advise that you practice the same basic caution you would when visiting a new place. Otherwise, there is no need for alarm because your safety will be our responsibility and we do take it seriously.

How can I be sure that Laba Africa Expeditions really exists and is a reliable company?

Laba Africa Expeditions is a tour company that has a valid certificate of incorporation as required by Ugandan law. Don’t be afraid to ask for copies of the company Certificate of registration. You can also check our various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for recent and consistent activity. Check out our tripadviser reviews from fellow travelers.

Furthermore, we also provide instant and constant feedback to our clients making sure that they don’t miss out on any new product developments.

How likely is it that I will see gorillas & what happens if I don’t?

It is important to note that these animals even though quite familiar with humans, they are still wild and can, therefore, be unpredictable in terms of movement. The good news is that a team of rangers go out before you very early in the morning to locate these beautiful creatures and in turn communicate with the guide of any group you track to lead you in that particular spot where you can finally be face to face with the gentle giants. In the unlikely event that the Gorillas have moved really far deep into the forest, you will be given chance to track a different area after your lunch. The rangers and guide will not stop until you see them and therefore making the likely hood of not seeing Gorillas an extremely very rare case.

What are the social customs & norms in Uganda?

Ugandan culture is very hospitable; feel free to engage in small conversation with the locals; however it is usually expected to greet first, addressing things directly is considered rude. Uganda is somewhat conservative, so try not to wear anything too revealing; pants, for women are unusual in the rural areas but are generally tolerated when dealing with foreigners or people from the city.

Yes, it is possible for one to design his or her own itinerary. By using our attractions page on the website, you can view the various destinations that you want to visit; send us a detailed email so that we can advise and come up with an itinerary best on the destinations you may wish to visit.

People from most countries can get a Ugandan visa at the point of entry for $50pp or even online on E-VISA. Make sure to carry your yellow fever vaccination card & valid passport at least 6 months to the date of expiry upon your arrival. It is also crucial to consult your doctor about malaria preventative medication and any other medication you may need to get before making your trip to the great pearl of Africa.

Are credit cards widely used in Uganda?

Credit cards are not widely used for commercial transactions in Uganda, however you can use your Visa card at various ATMs around Kampala. You might be able to use your credit card at major hotels as well.

What should I bring on my safari?

Just like any other journey to a new place, you must pack everything you feel like you need i.e medicine, toiletries, clothes depending on the season at your time of visit and so much more. When your visiting Uganda, it’s really not any different but we do however want to point a few things out; come with a rain jacket to be well prepared for the unpredictable rainfall in the park, insect repellent will be a lifesaver when you are in the middle of the tropical forests, sunscreen is a must as the African sun can tend to be unfriendly without some protection to your skin. If your gorilla tracking, kindly please bring the appropriate hiking boots with long socks to tuck your pants into to avoid the inconvenience of safari ants when having your beautiful encounter with the gentle giants and a long sleeved shirt to track in, you may need gloves.

kindly please note:

You can carry camera for your safari but please do not bring a drone, they are not allowed in Uganda unless you get special permission from the Ugandan government.

What is the most ideal time of year to visit?

The best times to view wildlife in Uganda are the Dry seasons (June to August & December to February). During the dry season, the vegetation is thinner and therefore its easier to spot wildlife from a far, not forgetting the convenience this season brings for various activities like hiking, gorilla tracking, game drives as the roads are less slippery.

What if I need medical attention during the trip?

Uganda, being a third world is not very well developed in the medical aspect. We do have some genuinely up to standard hospitals that extend excellent medical attention but we still advise our visitors to see their doctors at least a month before the date of travel to check for check-ups and vaccinations they need to get before they travel.
