Arusha National Park
Covering an area of approximately 137 square kilometers. Arusha National Park is situated on the slopes of Mount Meru, standing at 4,566 meters high, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes and lakes. Arusha National Park has many animals, including giraffes, buffalo, zebras, warthogs, baboons, and even elephants. Additionally, the park is a popular spot for bird enthusiasts as it hosts over 400 bird species. It’s a great place for hiking, biking, wildlife watching, and enjoying the area’s scenic beauty.
The adventure-filled Arusha National Park is accessible, however it is not on many safari programs for some reasons but mostly because it doesn’t offer you a chance to see all of the Big Five. The park is located at Mount Meru’s foothills, making it a perfect base for those wishing to climb Mount Meru. Though small in size, covering just 552 square kilometers, it’s packed with an abundance of wildlife, offering an unforgettable experience for anyone who visits.The Park also has many habitats, including forest – home to the black-and-white colobus monkey – and the park is excellent for birding.
When is the best time to visit Arusha National Park?
Dry Season (June-October):
Arusha National Park is best visited during the dry season from June to October, when the temperatures are at their lowest. Animals are easier to spot because the vegetation is thinner and water is scarce, thanks to the dry season. As an added benefit of the June to October season, there are fewer mosquitoes, resulting in a lower chance of malaria during your safari.
With an altitude of about 1300m and proximity to Mount Meru, Arusha has a temperate climate.
Wet season (November-May):
The Arusha National Park has two rainy seasons: The season of ‘short rains’ is between November and December, with sporadic showers generally clearing up quite quickly. In the months of March to May, the wet season comes to an end with long, rainy days, and outdoor activities and safaris do not offer much choice.
