Bisate’s main lodge is a structure made of wood, stone, and thatch with big windows facing the Volcanoes National park. It contains three distinct compartments, each with a domed top, and two stories. These three roofs are structured in a manner that honors the volcanoes Bisoke, Karisimbi, and Mikeno. The upper story houses the lounge, dining room, and bar, and to enter, guests have to climb a flight of stairs to reach a viewing deck. Guests can enjoy delectable meals prepared to perfection with the greatest ingredients, including seasonal vegetables from nearby community farms. In addition, sip on wines that go well with both international and traditional Rwandan cuisine. There is also a chef available to prepare any dietary preferences you may have. In the ground-level rooms, there is a wine cellar with a selection of seating areas and a glass of wine ready for guests to enjoy. The lounge has lots of seats around a cozy fireplace, cozy rugs, and a corner bar.

Environmental Impact of the Bisate Wilderness Lodge

Bisate Wilderness Lodge was the first lodge in Rwanda to combine luxury safaris of the highest caliber with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to trek mountain gorillas. More so, over 2 000 trees have been planted since Bisate developed two indigenous tree nurseries in collaboration with the local community to reforest a famous location that borders the Volcanoes National Park. The site offers breathtaking views of the Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes rising above the Afro-alpine forests of the park, and the lodge’s design pays homage to rural Rwandan culture.

Furthermore, Bisate employs 24 community members permanently and also provides staff training which has improved the livelihood of the communities around the lodge. In addition, in proud association with the surrounding community over $500,000 has been invested in the region: including the purchase of the Bisate site from 103 community members.

Best Time to go to Bisate Wilderness Lodge

Visits to Bisate Wilderness are possible throughout the year; however, the dry seasons of June to September and December to early February are typically the best times to visit the lodge. This is the best time for gorilla trekking excursions in the Volcanoes, as well as other Rwanda safaris. However, because most visitors come to Rwanda to see the gorillas, the best time is often whenever a highly sought-after permit is available. And don’t be put off by Rwanda’s rainy season, either; the shorter rains in November and long rains from March to May will give you spectacular scenery of the forests, lakes, and mountains, and gorilla permits are occasionally cheaper. Photographers may even prefer the rainy season because the forests have less light contrast, allowing you to focus on your subject. However, the rainy season comes with muddy and slippery trekking trails hence making gorilla trekking more strenuous.
