Gorilla Trekking Lodges in Rwanda.

Mountain gorillas are highly endangered and numbering at about 1,063 in the wild, a trekking safari to view these gorgeous creatures is a one-of-a-kind and, regrettably, once-in-a-lifetime encounter. The good news is that the bulk of the profits raised from trekking tourism are reinvested directly into efforts to protect gorillas and their rainforest environment, and with a profusion of wonderful lodges attracting even more lovely trekkers like yourself, those revenues are growing all the time.

Rwanda is one of Africa’s tiniest countries, yet its pulse beats strongly. The inhabitants are youthful and vibrant, and they are eager to share their music, art, and culture with travelers passing through. Unfortunately, it is an African country whose name is still tainted with sorrow. Rwanda has swiftly become regarded as a fantastic location for wildlife and adventure, while gently healing from the shame of its past. Rwanda is nicknamed as the Land of a Thousand Hills because of the endless mountains that dot this scenically lovely country. Rwanda has got some of the best gorilla trekking lodges that are based near Volcanoes national park as we will discuss in this blog;

Gorilla Trekking Lodges in Rwanda.

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.

Staying at Sabyinyo is like visiting an old friend on the Rwanda gorilla trekking circuit. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is part of the Governor’s Collection and is held by a community trust. It is located in the foothills of the magnificent Virunga mountains. Its secluded position provides breathtaking vistas, and its close contact with the community ensures that a variety of activities other than gorilla trekking are accessible. The lodge’s strategic position provides easy access to the park headquarters, which is the start of the adventure for gorilla trekking, as well as a quiet and serene setting for tourists to rest and take in the breathtaking scenery.

The terracotta chalets are warm, friendly, and quite cozy, with views of a setting straight out of ‘Gorillas in the Mist,’ replete with undulating hills and lilting fog. The ever-present Virunga Mountains provide a wonderful background, and you’ll be heading there for your gorilla trip. The lodge is only a few minutes’ walk from the entrance of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and the start of the trip, giving you more time to have a morning coffee and a big breakfast (excellent for energy levels!) before setting out on the hike.

Bisate Lodge.

The launch of a new lodge is always thrilling, and Bisate lodge in Volcanoes national park is no exception! With sleek conical cabins modeled after traditional palaces, stunning furnishings, and even more magnificent vistas across the brooding Virunga volcanoes. Bisate debuted in June of 2017. Bisate Lodge, Wilderness’ newest camp, is located in the midst of the forest and offers views of three major volcanoes: Bisoke, Karisimbi, and Mikeno. With easy access to the Volcanoes National Park and its park headquarters for gorilla trekking and other activities, this resort is an excellent alternative for visitors seeking luxurious accommodations in a spectacular setting.

The resort is situated on the natural slopes of its own extinct volcanic core, near to Volcanoes National Park in western Rwanda. Bisate is adjacent to Kinigi, where the park headquarters are located, and serves as an ideal base for park tours and gorilla trekking. The site on which the lodge currently stands was formerly farmland, and the Bisate team has worked hard to reforest the region with indigenous flora, preserve the beauty of the forest, and provide a home for many species of birds. The lodge consists of a shared dining/lounge space and six stand-alone domes for luxury and one-of-a-kind lodging.

Bisate’s six woodland homes are absolutely unforgettable. The rooms at Bisate are dome-shaped and covered in thatch and bamboo thickets, inspired by the architecture of Rwanda’s historic royal palace. Although its outside is traditional ‘Rwandan,’ its interior is fresh and contemporary, with dramatic tones of grey and green to represent its position in the center of the highlands.

The gorilla treks take place in Volcanoes National Park, but the lodge also offers treks to the nearby golden monkeys, Dian Fossey’s grave, and the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, as well as visits to the local community and the opportunity to participate in the reforestation program.

Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.

With easy access to the park’s entrance, Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel is the ideal base for guests searching for pleasant and economical lodging, with a restaurant, a pool, and gorgeous gardens to relax in. With easy access to the park headquarters and comfortable accommodations, it’s an excellent choice for people searching for more cheap lodging in the area. This boutique hotel is located in Kinigi, on the outskirts of the Volcanoes National Park. Because this hamlet is located at the foothills of the park’s entrance and headquarters, the hotel serves as an excellent base.

13 stone chalets and one deluxe cottage are located on the grounds of the well-kept gardens and the welcoming pool. Guests may enjoy the main lodge’s separate bar, dining room, and lounge area at any time of day. For those wishing to totally unwind, the gorgeous grounds include a pool, a massage hut, a sauna, and a steam room. The stone cottages, which are typically Rwandese in appearance, each include an en-suite bathroom and outside seats with views of the surrounding volcanic mountain range. The rooms are simple in style but provide everything needed for a good night’s sleep after a day of hiking and excitement!

The lodge’s location on the fringes of the national park entices practically all tourists (over the age of 15) to walk and follow Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. At an extra expense, the resort also provides bike riding, trekking to visit the golden monkeys in the bamboo jungle, and boat tours through the Rwandan countryside. Activities may be selected on the spot, and the lodge’s facilities allow guests to spend the day resting if they so want.

Mountain View Gorilla Lodge.

Mountain View Gorilla Lodge, which has breathtaking views of the Virunga Massif’s volcanic mountains, is conveniently positioned only 3 kilometers from the Volcanoes National Park’s entrance. This lodge is not only an excellent base for mountain gorilla and golden monkey hiking, but it is also a cozy and pleasant place to return to each evening, with fireplaces and blankets keeping you warm throughout the night. This wonderful eco-lodge is situated in the slopes of Mount Karisimbi, one of the volcanic mountains that comprise the Virunga Volcanoes Range, commonly known as the Virunga Massif. Mountain View Gorilla Lodge has spectacular views of the volcanoes and is about 3 kilometers from the park headquarters.

30 unique cabins for lodging are spread over the grounds of the lodge. When you go through the grounds of the lodge, you will not only feel welcome in the open, central eating and lounge area, but you will also be impressed by stunning views of the volcanos. They just erected a new wing to the property, and we have received mostly unfavorable feedback about it… This is not to say that we do not suggest the property; rather, we propose that you stay in the accommodation in the original wing.

The brick and tile cottages are nothing fancy, but they provide everything you need, including an en-suite bathroom and a nice bed! The electricity and hot water are supplied by a generator, which is only switched on at certain periods of the day (typically around 6 p.m.). Each cottage has a fire in the room, and because it is chilly here (due to the altitude), it is probably utilized more than not!

Mountain View Gorilla Lodge is approximately a 10-minute drive from the Volcanoes National Park’s entrance, giving it a significant edge over other hotels located further away. The major attraction is, of course, trekking to see critically endangered mountain gorillas, which may take anything from 40 minutes to 7 hours depending on which family you encounter. Because of its convenient location, it is also simple to arrange excursions to observe the park’s golden monkeys.

Virunga Lodge.

The Virunga Lodge is located on a hill with views of the Virunga Volcanoes to the west and the lakes of Burera and Ruhondo to the east. It’s around an hour’s drive to the park headquarters and a fantastic location to explore the countryside and local towns as well as gorilla trekking. The lodge features 10 separate Bandas scattered around the ridge. The main lodge, which has a living area, a dining room, and the Dian Fossey map room, is especially pleasant in the evening after a day spent exploring the national park. Beginning in July 2017, each room will have butler service. Virunga has 10 distinct ‘Bandas’ that are styled to mirror Rwanda’s traditional architectural type (stone-built with tile roofs). The en-suite Bandas, which are named after the nearby lakes, each offer a blazing fireplace and a private terrace with magnificent views of the mountains and twin lakes.

Trekking to view mountain gorillas and golden monkeys is generally what draws travelers to Volcanoes National Park in the first place. Other activities at the lodge include climbing the Karisimbi and Bisoke volcanoes, visiting the nearby twin lakes, and participating in communal activities such as watching traditional dance performers, visiting a local primary school, and visiting the Roz Carr’s orphanage, which cares for children who have been lost or orphaned as a result of the Rwandan genocide.

One & Only Gorilla’s Nest Lodge.

The exquisite One & Only Gorilla’s Nest Lodge is hidden away in a eucalyptus grove with distant views of the Virunga Mountains. This unique primate vacation lodging is divided into two sections: the main lodge and Jack Hanna Cottage. Guests can select between the two neighboring Ranch Rooms or the two rooms in Hanna Cottage; each room has a rollaway bed that can accommodate a third guest.

The lodge’s quiet, timeless atmosphere, as well as its lounge, with sumptuous furnishings and unique Rwandan art, will appeal to you. Step outside to take in the beauty of huge hydrangeas and the melodies of some of the region’s 178 bird species.
