There are four gorilla families that are habituated for tourism in the Ruhija Gorilla Trekking Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. These include:

  1. Bitukura Gorilla Family: This family has 14 members, including 4 silverbacks. They are known for their playful behavior and their tendency to climb trees.
  2. Oruzogo Gorilla Family: This family has 25 members, including 2 silverbacks. They are known for their energetic behavior and their love of play.
  3. Kyaguriro Gorilla Family: This family has 16 members, including 2 silverbacks. They are known for their peaceful behavior and are a good choice for visitors who want a more relaxed gorilla trekking experience.
  4. Mukiza Gorilla Family: This family has 10 members, including 1 silverback. They are known for their love of travel and tend to move throughout the forest in search of food.

By Road

Visitors can also reach the Ruhija sector by road from Kampala or Entebbe, which are the main entry points into Uganda. From Kampala or Entebbe, visitors can hire a private car or take a public bus to Kabale, which is about 8 hours drive away. From Kabale, visitors can then take a taxi or hire a private car to take them to the Ruhija sector.
