6 Days Ruaha and Selous National Park Expedition Safari Overview

Spend six amazing days on a thrilling African adventure and explore some of the most untouched, yet fantastic parks in Tanzania. On this 6-day Ruaha and Selous National Park expedition, visit Selous (Nyerere) National Park – Tanzania’s largest park, spanning 54 square kilometers of vast untouched wilderness. The park is home to a diversity of wildlife and you will have an opportunity to view exciting game drives and boat cruises.

From Selous, take to the home of the African Big Five and Big Cats in Ruaha National Park. Ruaha National Park boasts some of the largest predator populations including the endangered African Wild Dog, Cheetah, Lion, and Leopard, to mention but a few. While in Ruaha you will partake in 4×4 safari game drives and walking safaris to get personal with nature. The 6 Days Ruaha and Selous National Park Expedition will begin in Dar-es-salaam and conclude in Ruaha National Park.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Selous National Park

Following your arrival at the Airport in Dar-es-salaam, you will be picked up by our safari driver guide, who will transfer you to Selous National Park which is approximately a 4-hour drive. Arrive in the park in time for lunch and drive straight to your camp, which perches on the river banks of the great Rufigi River. Check into your camp, have lunch, and relax.

In the late afternoon, you can choose to stay at your lodge and enjoy a spectacular sunset while enjoying vistas of hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds and other wildlife refreshing by the river banks. on the other hand, you can embark on a wildlife drive or boat cruise and immerse yourself in the abundance of wildlife Selous National Park shelters. Dinner and overnight stay at Beho Beho Camp (Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2: Explore Selous National Park

After breakfast, prepare to explore Selous National Park on full-day game drives in your 4WD customized safari vehicle and in the company of an expert guide. Selous National Park is known for its diverse animal, bird, and plant species. You will be driving through a variety of ecosystems, from grassland plains and wetlands to woods and riverine forests. Common sightings here include elephants, buffaloes, wildebeest, lions, hippos, leopards, and zebras, among others.

Selous is also home to a variety of crocodiles, spotted hyenas, sable antelopes, greater kudus, elands, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, bushbucks, duikers, klipspringers, and oryx to mention but a few. Rhinos in Selous can only be seen in the southern sector and it also boasts one of the largest populations of the African Wild Dog. You will make several stops to catch views of animals, and birds and enjoy photography. You will return to your camp for lunch and head back into the wild for more game viewing. Day 3: Transfer to Iringa & Overnight in Iringa

Have a late breakfast and depart for Ruaha National Park via Iringa town. Drive through the scenic countryside with stopovers for lunch, and bathroom breaks and acquire souvenirs. Due to the lengthy trip from Selous to Ruaha, you will arrive late at night in Iringa town, where you will spend the night. On arrival in Iringa, check into your hotel and have dinner. Day 4: Depart for Ruaha National Park and Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast at your accommodation, embark on a 3-hour drive to Ruaha National Park and when you arrive, your guide will brief you about what to expect in Ruaha before taking you to your lodge for check-in. Have lunch and in the afternoon, take on your first game drive in Ruaha National Park – the popular home of Big Cats. This lesser-known safari area is regarded as one of East Africa’s hidden jewels since it is home to a rich range of wildlife, birds, and plants. It provides a significantly more realistic safari experience than northern Tanzania’s more popular parks.

During your afternoon game drive, you will have an opportunity to encounter elephants, buffalos, lions, and the elusive leopards (four of the Big Five). You will also spot a range of wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Ruaha National Park is home to over 570 recorded bird species. from your game drive, return to your lodge, and have dinner. Overnight stay at Mwagusi Camp or similar (Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5: Explore Ruaha National Park

Today, prepare to spend the day exploring Raha National Park on full-day game drives with bush lunches or packed lunches.  Ruaha National Park is well-known for its vast elephant and buffalo herds, as well as its abundance of predators. Home to over 80 mammal species, the park boasts 10% of the world’s total lion population and impressive herds f cheetahs and leopards. Ruaha is also a bastion for endangered African wild dogs. Other wildlife in Ruaha Wildlife National Park include zebras, giraffes, hartebeest, lesser and greater kudus, sable antelopes, buffaloes, and impalas among other antelope species. Ruaha also provides excellent bird-watching possibilities due to the diversity and number of species. Overnight stay at Mwagusi Camp (Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

6: Morning Safari Walk and Depart for Dar-es-salaam

As you wind up with your 6-day Tanzania safari, wake up to a sumptuous breakfast before heading out for a morning safari walk. You will be accompanied by an expert guide and an armed ranger for protection. Enjoy one last expedition in the untamed wilderness as you get up close and personal with wild animals, birds, and the breathtaking landscape. Return to your lodge and have an early lunch, after which you will depart for Dar-es-salaam. End of safari.
