KIGALI
What to do in Kigali
The capital of Rwanda of a thousand hills has its perks. If not well for its known cleanliness and safety, I will promise you that these attributes are not overhyped but well deserved, it has its joys and fun. If you find yourself here and wondering, where can I get the best coffee? Where can I get the best food? Where is what? Well, you have come to the right place because I have answers, another remarkable quality of the city, which they have done really well it’s the addresses, it’s quite hard to get lost here because every street has an address number and almost every house has a number. If you are a foodie like me and are into different foods.
foods and Cuisines
Asian
Borneo Indonesian Restaurant
We start with Borneo Indonesian Restaurant, located in Kimihurura where all the fun happens. and while the name comes from the 3rd largest Indonesian island, I can honestly say, though small, it is an island of amazing Indonesian cuisine, Oh lest I forget, you can get a cup of an amazing well-brewed Indonesian tea, as a tea lover, I have gone there a couple of times for that pot of tea, made from their local menu and no you can’t borrow the recipe.
Sakae Kigali
Since we have decided to go Asian, if you want a nice Japanese dining experience, look no further than Sakae located in the prestigious Nyarutarama, while they also serve Korean Sushi as well. I do love their Japanese sushi, and they have a really amazing ambience as well, if you are visiting with family or friends, this is the place for you to have your dinner while you discuss your future plans.
The Great Wall Restaurant
Still maintaining an Asian theme, I’d like to recommend you The Great Wall Restaurant, I think they have really nice Chinese food. My favourite is their Chinese noodles quite mouth-watering, and are located on the other side of Kimihurura towards Gishushu.
Indian Cuisine
Indian Cuisine, is in abundance in this city, while there are many notable restaurants with these cuisines, my favourite Kurry Kingdom, in Kacyiru not far from the infamous entertainment joint “cocobean”. With a Chinese and Indian vibe, Kurry Kingdom is one of the best restaurants in this city. Having been there severally, I can say that if you want to enjoy your meal with a family sitting by the moonlight, this place has the right vibe, including solo moments or with friends, and with amazing customer service.
I cannot mention Indian cuisine and not mention, Khana Khazana, in Nyarutarama, which is really nice as well having served Kigali residents longer, it also has one of the best restaurants, and there is also Red Handi if you want to treat someone to special, dinner at this restaurant would come in handy including a lovely proposal/birthday surprise.
If you are a Jollof lover and with some nice chicken stew, then there is Jollof Kigali you’d feel right at home with the best Naija dishes. Next to Kigali Heights, there is a place called Meze Fresh, especially if you are interested in Mexican tacos -I am not an expert here, I can’t tell the difference between mexican and American Tacos, all I know is they are nice and affordable tacos.
And finally, if you are looking for some nice pork rib Kigali has got your back! Has got some of the best pork ribs in Kigali, it’s just close to the Kigali Convention Centre in Kimihurura.
Digital Nomads and Coffee Lovers
If you are into coffee, you are in the right place, there are so many joints everywhere, and my go-to place is Question Coffee, they have some different locations in Kigali, and the Gishushu location is my favourite as you can enjoy your coffee while working if you are into remote work this is the place. And their internet is quite good.
ShoKola
ShoKola is located in Kacyiru right at the Kigali Public Library rooftop, it is a really nice space, and they have the best smoothies as well. It is nice meeting to even meet with a client, read a book quietly or work on your project.
Inzora Rooftop Cafe
I can assure you that you will enjoy a good cup of coffee, and you’re next to a bookshop, Ikerezi. They have so many books french, English, motivational, feminist or Pan-African you name it, they have it. It is located right next to the infamous Coco bean.
Cafe Rubia
located next to Roasters in Kimihurura, has one of that lovely lemonades, and good coffee, for soup lovers, they have really nice ginger mushroom soup and stable internet. A lovely space to do your work or read a book.
Other lovely places include Indabo in Kiyovu, which has really great ambience, especially for a special dinner, I loved their pork ribs, For Best smoothies, just a block from Mamba club, Twisty Blendz, in Kimihirura, their smoothies are to die for and quite thick and tasty, they make it to your liking at an affordable price. Java Kigali heights is also a great place to meet and work remotely as well. Tea House, Serve really quite good tea and coffee, especially hibiscus tea, their mushroom soup is great, and they also offer great and affordable accommodation. Also serves good local dishes.
