This 12 Days Kenya Self drive safari takes you into the Kenyan wilderness for amazing wildlife encounters. Day 1: Karibu Kenya

Karibu Kenya, Welcome to Kenya. You will land at Jomo Kenyatta international Airport where our representative from Laba Africa will welcome you. Depending on your time of arrival, a little sightseeing will orient you into the African culture. A visit to the David Sheldrick wildlife trust, Giraffe center or Karen Blixen museum is a nice way to ease into your adventure. The international conference tower offers spectacular views over the city.

Day 2: Mount Kenya

Start your 12 Days Kenya Self Drive Safari with an introduction to your safari vehicle. Check your equipment and prepare for your adventure. The scenic drive takes you through the Kenyan capital Nairobi to the lush green landscape of the countryside. You will be amazed at the quick transition from the concrete jungle to the lush green wilderness. On arrival, check into your accommodation and enjoy the captivating views of Mount Kenya.

Day 3: Explore Mount Kenya.

Wake up to an early morning breakfast before heading out for a day of the mountain side. Drive to Old Moses camp and commence your hike. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Moorland as you gently ascend. The views of the peaks at this point are breathtaking and inviting. Enjoy a picnic lunch and venture back to the base of the mountain. Depending on your level of fitness, you will be able to return to the lodge before evening.

Day 4: Drive to Samburu

Sleep in and enjoy a late breakfast recovering from the hike. Check out of the lodge and depart for Samburu National Reserve. Along with the Shaba and Buffalo springs national reserves, the Samburu national reserve is set in the greater conservation area. One can visit all of the three with one entrance fee. The nature reserve is characterized by dry semi-arid plains catering to a variety of wildlife including 4 of the Big 5. On arrival at Samburu national reserve, check into your lodge and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

Day 5: Explore Samburu

12 Days Kenya Self Drive Safari

After a restful night, you will venture into the untamed wilderness of the Samburu, Buffalo springs and Shaba national reserves. This game drive allows you to enjoy close encounters with the wildlife in the reserves. These include; elephants, Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffes, Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, hippos, buffalo and of course the big cats. Lions, cheetahs and leopards are the big cats found in the reserves. Encounter crocodiles along the Ewaso Ngiro river which gives life to the wildlife. This game drive will last the entire day. Remember to take a packed lunch and a few snacks for a picnic.

 Day 6: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National park

Depart Samburu national reserve for Lake Nakuru National park. The scenic drive through the Laikipia Plateau is captivating. Stretching from the slopes of Mount Kenya to the rim of the great rift valley, the plateau offers great view points for amazing pictures and picnics. Remember to give yourself enough time for the stopovers. On arrival, check into your lodge and relax for the evening.

Day 7: Explore Lake Nakuru National Park.

On this day of your 12 days Kenya Self drive safari, you will spend the day exploring the park on a game drive. The small sized park allows you to explore it in just a day. Wildlife to encounter include; black rhinos, buffaloes, zebra, giraffes, African wild dogs, eland, water buck, lions, leopards and many more. Stop for a lunch break at one of the other lodges inside the park. Other stops include viewing the waterfalls. In the evening, you will retire to the lodge for the night.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Naivasha.

Have a late checkout and embark on the short drive to Lake Naivasha. On arrival, check into your accommodation for the night. You have an option of participating in a walking or a cycling safari.

Day 9: Explore Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a lifeline to the wildlife in the woodland and forests surrounding it. The acacia trees and forests around the lake are home to a variety of birdlife making it Kenya’s ultimate birding destination. Giraffes gently stride through the acacia trees and buffalo muddle in the shallow ends of the lake. Colobus monkeys can be seen and heard from the treetops and hippos relax in the lake waters. Cycling and walking safaris are more common because the park doesn’t have dangerous predators.

Day 10: Transfer to Masai Mara


Proceeding a relaxing time on Lake Naivasha, head south to the Masai Mara, Kenya’s prime wildlife destination. The vast unending savanna plains enhance the beauty of the landscape. The tall grass, swaying in the wind is enchanting. Reserve enough time due to the conditions of the road. Check into your lodge in anticipated of amazing wildlife encounters.

Day 11: Enjoy Masai Mara

This is the highlight of any African safari. Venture onto the savanna plains and encounter the African wilderness. During the great migration, you will encounter vast herds of wildebeests and zebra crossing from the Serengeti to Masia Mara in search of greener pastures. Predators like lions, crocodiles and hyenas take the advantage for an easy meal. Leopards, hyenas, buffalo, giraffes, rhinos, gazelles and many more can be seen on this game drive. In the low season, you be able to enjoy exclusive game drives with enough game for a memorable experience.

Day 12: Return to Nairobi

Enjoy a morning game drive before departing Masai Mara for Nairobi. Enjoy last minute sightseeing. Chances of seeing some of the wildlife you might have missed is high.
