Safari Overview
This 4-days fly-in Ruaha National Park safari will provide you with a thrilling journey in this remote and unspoiled game reserve as you fly from Dar es Salaam or drive from Iringa town. Ruaha National Park is one of Tanzania’s most recognized wilderness areas, offering a unique combination of animal viewing and beautiful scenery. The park’s relatively unspoiled and unknown nature makes for a unique safari experience for tourists, offering encounters with diverse wildlife including African predators, the Big Five, angulates, and a plethora of bird species.
Ruaha National Park is said to harbor 10% of the remaining lion populations in the world and; it also boasts large numbers of cheetahs, African hunting dogs, and leopards. The park also features the Great Ruaha River, as well as smaller rivers like Mwagusi, Jongomero, and Mzombe, which are vital to the park’s survival. During the season, these rivers become the primary source of water for animals.
4-days fly-in Ruaha National Park safari Itinerary
Day 1: Fly from Dar-es-salaam to Iringa – Ruaha National Park
Fly from Dar-es-salaam to Iringa where your safari guide will be waiting for you. On arrival, board your 4×4 safari vehicle and drive to Ruaha National Park which is approximately three hours from Iringa. On arrival, check into your lodge and have lunch. After lunch, relax for a while before departing for an afternoon game drive in the spectacular Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is home to a variety of wildlife, including antelopes, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, elephants, cheetahs, and many more. Overnight stay at Kwihala Camp (Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 2: Ruaha National Park
After an early breakfast, depart for a full-day game drive starting at 06:30 am. Enjoy the sunrise game drive in search of wild animals in various areas of the park, where you may expect to see predators like lions, cheetahs, and vast numbers of wild dogs, among other creatures. After a 3 to 4-hour game drive, have a bush breakfast and continue with your game viewing. Lunch will be served in the park’s picnic area, after which you will take a break. In the late afternoon, continue with the game drive till the evening. Expect to witness creatures such as buffaloes, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, impalas, warthogs, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, larger and lesser kudu, sable and roan antelopes, and various birds and flora. Day 3: Ruaha National Park
Have breakfast and enjoy a fantastic 2 to 3-hour walking safari along the Great Ruaha River with a well-trained guide and two armed rangers for protection. Here, you will have the opportunity to have close-up-close views of hippos, crocodiles, lions, and a variety of other species that come to drink water in the river. Return later and relax. Spend the afternoon at leisure in the comfort of your cottage and at 06:30 pm, head back to the wild for a fantastic night drive where you will explore the park’s nightlife. Enjoy witnessing predators in action hunting their prey. Expect to encounter a variety of lions, cheetahs, and wild dogs among others. The night game drive in Ruaha is done with a spotlight torch which will be operated by your guide and armed rangers. Return to your lodge after and relax. Overnight stay at Kwihala Camp (Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Day 4: Depart for Iringa and Fly back to Dar-es-salaam
Have a late breakfast and depart for Iringa to catch your chartered flight back to Dar-es-salaam. While exiting the park, enjoy one last game drive. Lunch will be in Iringa after which you will fly to Dar-es-salaam for your departure. End of safari
