5 Days Ruaha National Park and Mikumi Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Mikumi National Park
Meet and greet in Dar-es-salaam and drive for 5 to 6 hours to Mikumi National Park. On arrival, check into your lodge and relax. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive to explore the park’s rich game. Mikumi National Park is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, lions, wild Dogs, elands, zebras, Hyenas, wildebeest, hartebeests, crocodiles, hippos, and lizards, among others. Mikumi is also home to more than 300 recorded bird species. After a 3-hour game drive, return to your lodge and relax. Overnight stay at Mikumi Wildlife Camp (Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Day 2: Drive to Ruaha National Park
After breakfast at 08:00 am, Depart for Ruaha National Park. Covering a total surface area of 20,226 square kilometers, Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s second largest National Park after Nyerere. The Park is home to over 80 mammal species and 520 bird species. the park derives its name from the Great Ruaha River which flows through the park and attracts a variety of wildlife throughout the year.
The 6-hour journey will get you to Ruaha in time for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon, take a game drive to explore one of Africa’s most pristine and largest parks. Expect great sightings of buffalo, elephant, zebra, Common and defassa waterbuck, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, impala, giraffe, Grant’s gazelle, Lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, Spotted hyena, and jackal to mention but a few. An array of saddle-billed storks, goliath herons, white-headed plovers, and vultures among many others can also be seen. Return to your lodge after and have dinner. Day 3: Explore Ruaha National Park
Ready to explore Ruaha National Park? Of course, you are, wake up to an early breakfast and embark on a full-day game viewing excursion morning and afternoon game drives. Ruaha is a pristine terrain of grassy plains and moderate hills dotted with acacia and baobab trees and is home to one of the world’s largest lion populations and one of East Africa’s few sizable cheetah populations.
The park also has impressive populations of wild dogs, leopards, and hyenas, as well as elephants, cape buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, and impalas, among other antelope species. On your game drives, you will also enjoy the park’s remarkable eastern and southern vegetation zones, which not only harbor a plethora of unique animal species but also beautiful flora. Retire at your lodge in the evening and enjoy dinner. Overnight stay at Kigelia Safari Camp (Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 4: Nature Walk and Transfer to Iringa
Today after breakfast, meet your guide and armed rangers for your morning nature walk. Explore Ruaha on foot and get up close and personal with the untouched wild it is. Enjoy close views of giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, etc., in addition to bird-watching. Return to your lodge after and relax. Have an early lunch and enjoy one last game drive as you depart for Iringa. On arrival, check into your hotel and have dinner. Overnight stay at Igumbilo Hilltop Lodge (Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast)
Day 5: Transfer to Dar-es-salaam and Departure
Enjoy a late breakfast and transfer to Dar-es-salaam for your departure flight. End of your safari.
