Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda

On arrival to the land of a 1000 hills , will be met by your Laba Africa Expeditions safari guide at Kigali International Airport.
He will then transfer to your hotel and if time allows you will visit the city and learn about its history and the daily life of the locals that call Kigali home.

Day 2Kigali - Virunga National Park DR Congo

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali by a Laba Africa Expeditions safari guide/ driver who will drive through Kigali heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo. This will take you roughly 4 hours to reach Goma DR Congo. In the Afternoon proceed to Virunga National Park.

Day 3Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park

After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing on the Dos and Donts while doing gorilla trekking . Treks can take from 30 minutes to 8 hours of hike in the dense jungleits all depends depending on movements of the gorillas since we dont make appointments with them. Once you meet them you will spend an hour with them, learn abouth them and follow them while they are feeding, resting and so on.

Trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day for relaxing or opt for a nature walk and bird watching.

Day 4Nyiragongo Volcano Hike

After breakfast in Kibumba, proceed to Kibati Ranger post at 8:15am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours and trekkers will overnight on the summit

Day 5Decsend the Nyiragongo and Transfer to Tchegera Island

Transfer to to Goma city and catch a boat to iconic Tchegera Island is the greatest place to be and escape the hustles of the city. A picnic will be organized in the island and activities to do here include kayaking, swimming, fishing among other.
On clear nights, Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira volcanoes add to the drama by turning the night sky red with their glowing lava.

Day 6 Idjwi Island Experience

After breakfast, you will take a speedboat to Idjwi Island. Idjwi is the second largest lake island in Africa. Activities will include visiting one of the many pineapple plantations (and of course picking and eating one), village and nature walks, bird-watching, swimming in the lake and interacting with the local people to learn about life on Idjwi.

There is also an option of visiting nearby fishing villages. Pay the fishermen a small tip to guide you through the lush, primary tropical forest on this little piece of paradise, abounding in bird life and also home to a troupe of as yet unidentified monkeys. Idjwi Island receives few visitors but is a unique and unexplored travel destination.

Day 7To Bukavu

On this day of your 12-days Rwanda-DR Congo tour Its time to say goodbye to this beautiful island. You will be transferred to Bukavu near Kahuzi Beiga National Park home of low land gorillas using a boat. Upon your arrival in Bukavu, you will be transferred to your hotel relax and prepare for the big day tommorow

Day 8 Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Beiga National Park

In the morning, you will head for the memorable adventure of trekking the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National park. Trekking lowland Gorillas is amazing, the lowland gorillas are bigger in size and stay in bigger families as compared to mountain gorillas. The trekking experience usually takes 1-4 hours. This comes as a once in a lifetime experience as Eastern lowland gorillas are endemic to the DR Congo. In the afternoon, you will be brought to your hotel for overnight

Day 9Visit Tshibati waterfall and Lwiro sanctuary and Transfer to Rwanda

After breakfast, you will go for a nature walk in the Kahuzi Biega park, you will find several trails of various lengths and difficulties for all ages. Enjoying the park’s great variety of landscapes, including tropical and bamboo forests, swamps and Tshibati waterfalls, as well as possibilities of spotting birds, monkeys and countless other animal and plant species., visit the Lwiro research centre which is at 17Km from Kahuzi biega national Park (Lwiro sanctuary).
In the afternoon, we will say goodbye to DR Congo and transfer back to Rwanda

Day 10Chimpanze trekking in Nyungwe Forest and Transfer to Lake Kivu Rwanda

Today you will venture deep into Nyungwe Forest National Park in search of the chimpanzees.
On a Chimpanzee Tracking experience in Nyungwe Forest you will have the opportunity to follow an experienced guide into the forest to observe these fascinating creatures at a close range. Watching them interact with each other and go about their daily routine of grooming, playing and foraging is an incredible experience.
While your chances of encountering chimpanzees are high during your tracking excursion, it is never 100% guaranteed. These are, after all, wild animals with wills and minds of their own!

Day 11 Explore Lake Kivu

From the rainforests of Nyungwe you will travel north along the shores of Lake Kivu, one of the African Great Lakes in the Albertine Rift, creating a natural border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The stunning shores of Lake Kivu contain some of the best inland beaches on the continent. Choose to relax at the lodge today, take a stroll on the long stretch of beach near the property, or explore the shorelines and bays on a half-day kayaking tour. Let your Travel Consultant know if you want to add a guided half-day kayaking tour to your program today.

Activities at Lake Kivu are at your own expense.

Day 12 To Kigali city Flight back home

Enjoy your last morning on this beautiful lake today before your guide drives you back to Kigali for your departure flight.

Please make sure your international flight departure is not before 3 pm. For flights departing before 3 pm we will arrange a night in Kigali for you at an additional cost.
