8 Days Uganda Safari tour

8 Days Uganda Safari tour Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Uganda!

Arriving to a new and country can be over-whelming as you take in the unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells of your new surroundings. This is certainly the case for a first visit to Uganda. Your Tour guide will be with you from the very beginning, welcoming you at the airport and transferring you to your lodge while you lean back and watch your new world go by. If this is your first time traveling to Africa, we trust it will be a lifetime memory.

Your accommodation for the night is set on the shores of Lake Victoria, about a 40-minute drive from Entebbe. Along the way you will catch a sight of the daily life of Uganda, like the matatus and boda bodas (local 4-wheel and 2-wheel taxis) weaving daringly through traffic, roadside food stalls serving that delicious local food Rolex.

Day 2: To Sipi via Jinja

Your journey on this 8 Days Uganda Safari tour will begin with a visit to Jinja, a town on the shores of Lake Victoria about a 3-hour-drive of Kampala. This lake-side town is famous for being the historic source of the River Nile and, more recently, for developing into the adrenaline capital of East Africa.

On a boat ride you will go on a cruise out to the actual source of the Nile, where Lake Victoria pours into the Nile, beginning its 600 km long journey to the Mediterranean.

After this little stop you will continue on toward to Sipi Falls in the foothills of Mount Elgon National Park.

This verdant and hilly landscape has a spectacular series of waterfalls and a network of walking trails winding through villages and lush coffee-producing fields.

Day 3: Full day in Sipi

The Sipi River flows over the foothills of Mount Elgon, forming a series of waterfalls – which culminate in a spectacular drop. The waterfalls are surrounded by beautiful walking trails and lush green hills. A local guide will lead you on a 3-hour hike through the region to visit these falls. Besides nature in abundance your hike will include a local lunch experience and a tour of a small local coffee producing farm. This is the perfect time to pick up some high-quality Ugandan coffee to take home to your friends and family.

If you are missing a bit adrenaline in your day you can abseil from the top of the 100-meter-high Sipi Falls. Hanging from a rope in the cool mist of the cascading falls right beside you, you will have a spectacular panoramic view of the valley below.

In the early morning of your Uganda safari, you leave for a scenic hike on Mount Moroto, the highest mountain of Karamoja. During the walk you will visit the So Tepeth mountain people and get an insight into their culture and everyday lives.

Day 5: Visit a Manyatta & Game Drive in Kidepo National Park

On this day of your 8 Days Uganda Safari, you will have the opportunity to visit a traditional Karamajong manyatta. A manyatta is a village made up of several huts, which in turn are surrounded by a fence made of branches and thorns. These are put up to keep the cattle in and to protect them from thieving rival tribes and wild animals. Visiting a manyatta will give you an interesting insight into the customs and traditions of the Karamajong.

After this visit you will head farther north to the most remote and pristine national park in the country: Kidepo Valley National Park. In the rugged semi-arid valleys in the extreme northeast of Uganda, the park lies hidden away in a corner between Uganda’s borders with South Sudan and Kenya. It is a long but very rewarding journey to get to this region with some of the most beautiful scenery in Uganda. On your arrival to the park you will have time to go on an afternoon game drive in the wild Narus Valley to see herds of elephant and buffalo. You might even spot some lions and leopards perching on the various rocks dotting the valley floor.

Day 6: Full day game drive in Kidepo Valley National Park

On a full day game drive you will cover more ground in this beautiful park. It has a profusion of big

game and hosts 475 bird species and over 80 mammal species, among them; lions, ostriches, zebras, bat-eared foxes, aardwolves, caracals, cheetahs, and greater and lesser kudus. Kidepo Valley National Park ranks among Africa’s finest wilderness landscapes and was ranked no. 3 on CNN’s list of the best national parks in Africa.

Want to explore the park on foot?

Kidepo Valley National park is one of the few parks in Uganda where you can do a walking safari.

The park is a completely different place when you are removed from the constraints of a safari vehicle. Your senses are aware of every sound and movement in the bush and you see things at ground level that you would otherwise miss. With a knowledgeable ranger you will also learn a lot about the inhabitants of the park and how to recognize their tracks. This is an exciting and very rewarding activity that we can highly recommend.
