9 Days Nyerere and Zanzibar Safari Overview
Starting from Zanzibar, this 9 Days Nyerere and Zanzibar Safari will treat you to the best of wildlife, adventure, and beach holiday the country has to offer. Nyerere National park is a less popular yet stunning reserve featuring Africa’s largest pristine natural environment with unrivaled safari opportunities. You will spend a few days in Nyerere enjoying beautiful boat excursions encouraged by the numerous rivers and lakes including the vast Rufigi River which is the reserve’s major and largest water source. Still in Nyerere, explore the reserve’s numerous regions in a 4×4 custom vehicle and on foot, every day which will treat you to stunning views of the magnificent mammals and birds. Nyerere is at its height from July until the end of October when the dry season is at its peak and all the game concentrates on the few permanent water sources. Nyerere is also one of the few national parks that offer guided walking safaris with armed rangers.

9 Days Nyerere and Zanzibar Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Zanzibar
Following your arrival in Dar Es Salaam, you will be picked up from the airport by o driver guide and dropped off at your lovely hotel . . (Meal Plan: Full-board Basis)
Day 2: Fly to Nyerere National Park
After an early breakfast, you will be driven to Zanzibar Airport for a morning flight to the Nyerere National park, departing at 08:00 a.m. from Zanzibar with a 15-minute stopover in Dar es Salaam and then proceed to Selous’ Mtemere Airstrip. On arrival, you will be picked up and transferred to your lodge and relax. Spend the rest of the morning at leisure while enjoying game viewing from the comfort of your terrace.
Lunch will be given at the lodge’s restaurant, followed by a boat safari on the Rufiji River later in the afternoon. The Rufiji River, which flows into the Indian Ocean, runs through the reserve and harbors a variety of crocodiles and hippos as well as a range of aquatic birds that appreciate the marshy terrain around this river. Following your boat safari, you will return to your lodge and have dinner. Overnight stay at Selous Mapumziko Lodge (Meal Plan: Full-board basis)
Day 3 & 4: Full-day Game Viewing
Spend days 3 and 4 exploring Nyerere National Park on full-day wildlife drives in an open four-wheel safari jeep or land cruiser which is ideal for optimal views and unimpeded photography. Nyerere features one of Africa’s greatest surviving wilderness regions; and is traversed by Tanzania’s second largest river, the Rufiji River, resulting in a highly dynamic ecology. The park is home to more than 350 bird and reptile species, approximately 2000 plant species, and a diverse spectrum of mammals including large herds of elephants, buffaloes, hippopotami, lions, Masai giraffes, zebras, impalas, bushbucks, hartebeests, wildebeests, crocodiles, and many others.
Nyerere is also one of the few national parks that offer armed ranger-led walking safaris. The beauty of these walking safaris is that you may appreciate the scenery the most and have close encounters with creatures such as crocodiles, leopards, hyenas, African wild dogs, kudu, and elephants. Day 5: Nyerere – Zanzibar
Today after breakfast, you will enjoy a morning game drive on your way to Mtemere Airstrip for your scheduled departure to Zanzibar. On arrival, you’ll be picked up from Zanzibar Airport and transferred to the lovely Zanzibar Beach Resort which provides well-appointed rooms with ideal sea views hidden among tropical gardens and white powdery beaches. The hotel provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy barefoot luxury at its finest. Dinner and overnight stay at Zanzibar Beach Resort. (Meal Plan: Full-board basis)
Day 6,7 & 8: Relax and Explore Zanzibar
For the next few days, enjoy the gorgeous beach with the most turquoise ocean and the most spectacular tidal fluctuations you’ve ever seen. Swim from the jetty when the tide is high and go for endless beach walks when the tide is low. Dive or go snorkeling to discover the underwaters of the island or relax with a drink at the jetty bar. You can also explore the Zanzibar capital of Stone Town and take a stroll around the beautiful and ancient city as you learn about the unique culture of the island. Day 9: Departure
As your 9-day Tanzania safari comes to an end, you will wake up at leisure and have breakfast before checking out and heading to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport for your departure.
