12 Days Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania and safari in Kilimanjaro NP
Pick up from Kilimanjaro Airport and drive for about one and a half hours to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. Home to Africa’s tallest mountain peak – Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro National Park is a popular destination, especially for hiking safaris. Featuring three volcanic cones, the dormant volcano is the world’s highest freestanding peak.
Besides holding incredible natural beauty, Mount Kilimanjaro National Park shelters a variety of wildlife and bird species which you’ll have the opportunity to encounter on your safari through the park. Through its montane forest, moorland, and grassland vegetation cover, look out for the African bush elephant, cape buffalo, leopard, serval cat, olive baboon, black and white colobus monkey, grey duiker, tree hyrax, mongoose, etc.
Day 2: Safari in Lake Manyara
Breakfast will be served in the morning at your lodge, after which you will transfer to Lake Manyara National Park. Enjoy about two and a half hours of sightseeing and a few brief stopovers to grab souvenirs and or fruits en route in Mto wa Mbu.
Lake Manyara is a natural cradle for the famed tree-climbing lions and if you are a birding enthusiast, the safari will be a delightful one; treating you to awe-striking sights of the large flamingo colonies that flock Lake Manyara’s shores. Also, look out for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, and wildebeest, among others.
Day 3: Transfer to Serengeti via Ngorongoro C.A to visit Masai villages
Wake up to the sweet, soothing sound of the wilderness and embark on your journey to the endless plain of the Serengeti via Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route to Ngorongoro, visit the Maasai Bomas and explore the traditional nomadic lifestyles of the Maasai before proceeding to Serengeti.
Day 4: Full-day safari in Serengeti
Spend the day exploring Serengeti National Park whose endless plains have not only been featured in documentaries but also great movies including “The Lion King.” Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s most popular park majorly for being home to the Great Annual Wildebeest Migration; however, the park is also famous for its enthralling Big Cat population.
Take in the Serengeti Sunrise amidst views of lion prides, cheetahs, the elusive leopard and wild dog, and an array of grazers such as giraffes, wildebeests, elephants, buffaloes, hartebeests, etc. Have your packed lunch and spend the rest of the day exploring the endless plains, encountering wildlife lazing around under the acacia trees and by the water sources.
Day 5: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation area with Game drive.
Begin your journey to the beautiful Ngorongoro Crater by checking into your accommodation. Take a game drive in the afternoon to explore the crater’s many animals including elephants, wildebeest, buffaloes, giraffes, etc.
Day 6: Transfer to Moshi.

Day 7: Hike and coffee tour in Materuni Falls
Drive to the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in a village called Materuni which is known for its romantic, tasty coffee and fantastic falls. Take time to learn from the Chagga people the various processes involved in making coffee right from the garden into the cup. A 45-minute walk through valleys and hills en route to the Materuni Falls. Meanwhile, your guide will enrich you with stories about the local Chagga people, giving you insight into their culture.

Day 9 to 11: Explore Mafia Island
Spend the next days, relaxing and unwinding by Mafia Island’s gorgeous white sand beaches. Various adventures include diving, snorkeling, exploring Mafia Marine National Park, swimming with sharks, and simply relaxing by the beach.
