The Baraka gorilla family is another new gorilla group found in Virunga national park in the eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo. There are 19 members in the Baraka group which is also found around the Gikekeri area in Virunga national park. The dominant silverback in the Baraka group is called Baraka. Baraka gorilla family is also still undergoing the habituation process for tourism in Virunga national park. The habituation process involves introducing the gorillas to the presence of humans in their natural habitat.

After successfully completing the habituation process, tourists can visit the Baraka family and enjoy seeing these gorillas during the gorilla treks in Congo. There are also other gorilla families which are habituated in Virunga national park which tourists can visit and they include the Kabirizi group, the Lulengo group, the Rugendo group, Munyaga group, Mapuwa group, Humba group and Bageni group.

Visiting the gorillas in Baraka group

To see the habituated gorillas in Virunga national park, tourists are required to have gorilla permits which cost 450 USD. These gorilla permits are issued to individuals above the age of 15 years. A briefing is also done at the park headquarters before the tourists begin the search for the gorilla family in Virunga national park. The amount of time spent searching for these gorillas can be long or short depending on where the gorillas were spotted by the trackers.

One hour is spent with the gorillas during gorilla trekking in Virunga national park. During this time tourists can enjoy moments with the gorillas as they play, feed and do other things in their natural habitat. The best time for the gorilla trekking experience in Virunga national park is during the dry season from June to October but the activity can also be done during the rainy season when visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo.
