Ruzizi Tented Camp is a luxury lodging in Kayonza, Rwanda, located in the Akagera National Park on the shores of Lake Ihema. Ruzizi Tented Camp is the best luxury lodge among the park’s lodges. You may arrive at the resort by car or by plane. Kigali International Airport is constantly available to international flights from Uganda, the United States, Canada, Dubai, Qatar, and other destinations. Kigali International Airport is located around 10 minutes outside of Kigali city and is where the Akagera trip begins. The travel from Kigali International Airport to Akagera National Park’s Ruzizi Tented Camp takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes (110 kilometers).
The Ruzizi tented camp has nine en suite comfy tents designed in African style with grass thatched roofs. Tents are tastefully designed and equipped to provide solitude and tranquility. All tents offer private en suite facilities such as flushing toilets, mosquito netting, and hot running showers/tubs. Rooms are nicely equipped with satellite TVs, driers, and other amenities, as well as private balconies, sitting spaces, and verandas to relax in while taking in the spectacular view of the lake and surrounding hills and wetlands. The excellent rooms are funished with luxurious bedding. The lodge has fire spots that give warmth to tourists at night. Rooms are divided into three types: single, double, and triple, and they cost $300 or more each night.
Ruzizi Tented Camp has other services and amenities such as a restaurant that serves various meals prepared by good and well-trained personnel; breakfast, lunch, and supper served both indoors and outdoors while overlooking the lake Ihema a well-stocked bar with both hard and soft beverages, azure water for swimming. Akagera game lodge
Mantis Resorts has been managing the Akagera Game Lodge in Rwanda since 2018. The lodge includes 60 en-suite rooms, each with a breathtaking view of Lake Ihema. However, the resort is underwent repairs and upgrades until March 2020, with facilities such as its restaurant, bar, and swimming pool being the most affected.
The rooms at Akagera Game Lodge include amenities such as air conditioning, a work desk, a refrigerator pre-stocked with bottled drinking water and a few bottles of wine for guests, housekeeping King size beds with mosquito nets, a safe, a wardrobe, a hair dryer, an electric kettle, cable TV, and a walk-in shower with hot and cold water. Some of the lodge’s rooms are interconnected and big. This clearly demonstrates that the lodge’s sole goal is to provide the greatest services to its visitors.
Magashi camp is a newly built premium camping lodging facility that opened in early 2019. It is located in the far north of Akagera National Park, facing Lake Rwanyakazinga. This accommodation facility has 6 safari tents with wonderful modern touches and stylish objects such as wooden tables, modern décor, netting spacious beds, and the tents are illuminated with plenty of light and quite spacious. The rooms are very large and have a dressing area with luggage storage, coffee making facilities, a mini-safe, a complimentary mini-bar, a writing desk and chair, an en-suite bathroom, and pedestal fans.
The safari tents at Magashi Camp offer a large terrace from which to enjoy the lovely scenery of the park.
Karenge Forest Camp
Karenge bush camp is an incredible ecological accommodation facility. Karenge bush camp draws its name from a local Kinyarwanda word Karenge, which means footprint. The camp offers a romantic intimate wilderness experience with 6 canvas tents that can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests. Each tent has two camp beds, chairs, reed mat floors, and solar lighting for reading. Each tent has its own outdoor bathroom with bucket showers, toilets, and cancan basins with warm water.
Karenge Bush Camp is a seasonal camp that operates on a bi-annual basis. The camp is known as Small Foot since the park’s first goal was to leave a small light footprint on the earth’s surface. This is observed during the removal of the tent, when there is evidence that it was previously visited.
The Akagera National Park is located in the eastern section of Rwanda, close to the Tanzanian border. Despite the fact that Rwanda has two main national parks (Nyungwe forest national park and Volcanoes national park), Akagera is one of the greatest and most visited. The park has a total size of 1,122km2. The park features woods, wetlands, savannahs, and low mountains. The Akagera National Park is home to a variety of wildlife, including over 20 mammal species.
There are about 480 bird species in the park, including fish eagles, Cattle Egret, Hamerkop, Sacred and Hadada Ibis, Augur Buzzard, Long-crested Eagle, and Pied Crow, Black-headed and Viellot’s Black Weavers, Grey-backed Fiscals, Fan-tailed Widowbird, and Caruthers Cisticola. The park is also home to the big 5 and all can be seen during your game drive in Akagera.
The entrance fee to Akagera national park is $50. The budget, mid-range, and luxury lodgings in Akagera National Area are the best and most inexpensive for visitors to the park.
There are several things to do while in the park, including game drives both day and night, which allow tourists to view various animals and bird species in the area. Bird watching/birding is popular in the park since there are numerous bird species. Nature hikes in the park, boat rides, and kayaking on Lake Ihema, provide spectacular views of the surrounding hills and marsh with hopes of seeing hippos, crocodiles, and bird species. There is fishing in Lake Shakani, Helicopter rides, visits to local towns, cultural experiences, and a variety of other activities.
