10-Days South Sudan Tribes Expedition

Our 10-Days South Sudan Tribes Expedition route to discover some of Africa’s most traditional tribes. South Sudan is Africa’s newest country and it has not yet been discovered by tourists. Expect to Meet some of  Africa’s most indigenous people of Mundari and Dinka. The Mundari a cattle-herding tribe living remotely along the White Nile river, north of South Sudan’s capital Juba. Their vast herds of sacred cattle graze on fertile river land, with the Mundari living mainly off the milk, not the meat. Wrestling and playing music are popular Mundari pastimes, and each morning they massage their cows with ash, a technique used to keep flies and insects away.

You will also meet the 3 other traditional tribes inhabiting the hills of Eastern Equatoria state like the Boya tribe, Lotuku Tribe and Toposa Tribe on this 10-Days South Sudan Tribes expedition.

10-Days South Sudan Tribes Expedition Program

Day 1: Welcome to Juba the Capital of South Sudan

Our team will be at the airport to welcome you to Juba, the capital of Africa’s youngest Nation. Juba also the fastest growing city in Africa. Depending on the time of your arrival, it is possible to go explore the city that was once a trading post used by the colonialists during the 19th century.

There are few places to explore including the konyokonyo market, the late John Garang tombs who is the founding father of South Sudan died in a plane crash just before South Sudan became an independent state.

Day 2: Transfer to Mundari Cattle Camp ( Terekeka)

On this day of your 10-Days South Sudan tribes expedition, you will have early morning breakfast we shall depart to terekeka town the capital of the Mundari people. it’s a five-hour drive and we shall have our lunch break in a special local restaurant (Naivasha restaurant) we shall proceed and introduce ourselves to the local authority before later driving to Nyikabor village .where we shall the nights having an authentic Mundari cultural experience overnight camping in Camping tents

Day 3: Full Day Mundari Cattle Camp ( Terekeka)

We will be gain a cattle camp to admire the Mundari tradition. The Mundari are predominantly cattle keepers. The cattle is their everything. It’s a sign of prestige, they use them as dowry and source of income, we shall spend the day trying to learn and
understand more about the Mundari culture we shall Visit small Mundari villages where facial and body scarification are still practised to this day.

Day 4: Full Day Mundari Cattle Camp ( Terekeka)

Breakfast and an early morning visit to the cattle for pictures. Farewell to the Mundari tribe and long drive back to Juba while in juba. Overnight In Royal Palace Hotel

Day 5: Juba to Kapoeta with light aircraft

On this day of your 10-Days South Sudan Tribes expedition we shall take our flight to kapoeta which is the Far East and is on the border with Kenya. The flights are scheduled for Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Saturday. The flight always leaves at 9am and takes 1hr to arrive kapoeta town. we shall check-in at mango camp. We shall visit the tribal market to introduce us to the toposa people. In the evening we shall visit a toposa village overnight in MANGO CAMP at mango camp there power 24hr and proper shower and internet

 

Day 6: Kapoeta to Boya

On this day of the 10-Days South Sudan Tribes expedition, we shall Visit tribal Kapoeta villages in the morning before they go to the fields. to experience their daily life. The Toposa continue to dress in their traditional clothes (leather or cotton) and pierce their lips and scarify their arms, chests, and faces. Each and every scarification is a work of art. Toposa village. After the visit, we shall drive to Camp15. From there we visit Boya tribal villages. The Boya are similar to the Toposa but speak a different language and decorate their hair in a particular manner. But what makes the main difference is their architecture style. The Boya are magnificent architects and their houses are well built and nicely decorated. Accommodation: tents. FB

Day 7 : Boya – Lotuko mountains

Breakfast. After the visit to the Boya tribe, we drive to Lotuko Mountains. We will leave the car at the foot of the rocky hills and climb (easy climb) for 20 minutes to Ilieu village, a traditional Lotuko village that is a jewel for nature and architecture lovers. It reminds in some way to Machu Pichu in Peru. Wall made of rocks, nicely positioned to adapt to the mountain geography. It is a stunning place and we believe it is worth spending one night with the community. Dinner and traditional music and dances in the evening. Accommodation: tents. BB

Day 8 : Lotuko Mountains to Torit

Breakfast. Last visits around the village and even to higher points of the mountain. We shall say fair well to the lotuko and then we transfer to Torit town Accommodation: Hotel. TORIT HOTEL BB

Day 9 : Transfer to Juba

This is the last day of the 10-Days South Sudan Tribes expedition. After the break, we shall embark on a long drive back to juba through amazing landscapes. Overnight at Royal Palace Hotel

Breakfast. Morning visit to John Garang’s –founding Father of South Sudan- mausoleum (no pictures allowed) and some shopping at one of the few artisan places in Juba. Transfer to the airport. Flight back home.

Important to Note

-The order of visits and excursions can be modified according to local conditions
(i.e. state of roads, market days…).
-If some visits and/or tours could not be done due to external conditions, they
will be replaced when possible.
-There are long distances between cities and towns, and often roads or tracks
are in bad conditions.
-It is highly recommended to bring a sole big bag for the trip plus one or two backpacks.
