Safari Overview

This 11 days Rwenzori hike will start in Kampala and you will be driven to Kasese and continue the tour with a hike on Mount Rwenzori before returning to Kampala where the tour will end.

11 days Rwenzori Hike Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kasese

You will start the 11 days Rwenzori Hike with pick up from Kampala and your guide will drive you to Kasese where you will spend the night before the hike on Mount Rwenzori the next day.

Day 2: Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Camp

After breakfast early at the hotel in Kasese, you will start the hike on Mount Rwenzori from Nyakalengija camp to Nyabitaba camp which will take about 6 to 7 hours.

Day 3; Nyabitaba to John Matte Camp

From Nyabitaba camp you will hike to John Matte camp for about 7 to 8 hours and follow a trail through forest, Kurt Shafer bridge, moss covered rock and giant lobelia and also enjoy views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke and spend the night at John Matte camp.

Day 4: John Matte to Bujuku Camp

You will have breakfast at John Matte camp and hike to Bujuku camp for about 4 to 5 hours and follow the trail along the Bujuku river, into the lower bog, see giant lobelias, to the upper bog and to Lake Bujuku. You will also enjoy views of Mount Baker and Mount Stanley and acclimatize and spend the night at Bujuku camp.

Day 5: Bujuku to Mt. Speke to Bujuku

You will hike from Bujuku camp on this day to Mount Speke via the Stulman’s pass for about 4 to 5 hours. You will descend to Bujuku camp from Victorio Emanuele peak and enjoy views of Bujuku valley and Lake Bujuku and also Margerita and Albert peak and the descend will take about 3 to 4 hours and spend the night at Bujuku camp.

Day 6; Bujuku to Elena Camp

The hike on this day will start from Bujuku camp to Elena camp and take 5 to 6 hours following a trail through bog and view the Kitandara lakes and spend the night at Elena camp.

Day 7: Elena Hut to Margherita Peak to Kitandara Camp

You will wake up early for the summit attempt to the Margherita peak which takes about 4 to 5 hours and this trail will go through glaciers and slippery rock and ice across the Stanley plateau. After acclimatization you will continue to summit to Margherita peak which is the highest on Mount Rwenzori. And descend to Elena hut which will take 2 to 3 hours. You will have lunch at Elena hut and descend to Scott Eliott pass where you will view Bujuku lake and Mount Speke and pass through the alpine zone and Kitandara lakes and spend the night at Kitandara camp.

Day 8: Kitandara to Mt. Baker to Kitandara

You will start the hike early morning from Kitandara camp to Edward peak and ascend will take about 5 to 6 hours. from Edward peak you will descend to Fresh field pass and return to Kitandara camp which will take 3 to 4 hours and spend the night at Kitandara camp.

Day 9; Kitandara to Guy Yeoman

From Kitandara camp you will hike from the base of Mount Baker and follow the high alpine moss and descend through steep rock and the rock shelter at Bujongolo and spend the night at Guy Yeoman camp.

Day 10; Guy Yeoman to Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija

You will hike from Guy Yeoman camp to Nyakalengija camp on this day via the Nyabitaba camp which will take 7 to 8 hours and from Nyakalengija your guide will drive you to Kasese where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 11: Drive to Kampala

On the last day of the tour you will have breakfast and after check out you will be driven back to Kampala where you will be dropped off which will bring the 11 days Rwenzori Hike to an end.
