Safari Overview

This 9 days Rwenzori hike will start in Kampala ad will also involve a 6-day hike on the central circuit of Mount Rwenzori before returning to Kampala.

9 days Rwenzori Hike Itinerary

Day 1: arrival

You will be picked up from the airport and your guide will drive you to the hotel in Entebbe where you will spend the night.

Day 2: drive to Kasese

After breakfast at the hotel in Entebbe, you will check out and start the journey to Kasese where you will spend the night as you prepare for the hike on Mount Rwenzori the next day.

Day 3; Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba camp

You will start the hike at Nyakalengija after breakfast at the hotel in Kasese and hike to the Nyabitaba camp which will take about 6 to 7 hours. You will pass through farmland, forest and also encounter colobus monkeys as well as birds such as the Rwenzori turaco. You will spend the night on this day of your 9 days Rwenzori Hike at Nyabitaba camp.

Day 4; Nyabitaba to John Matte Camp

You will hike from Nyabitaba camp to John Matte camp on this day for about for about 7 to 8 hours. This trail will pass along the forest, the Kurt Shafer bridge, moss covered rocks, giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. You will also be able to view the Mount Stanley and Mount Speke and spend the night at John Matte camp.

Day 5; John Matte to Bujuku Camp

The hike on this day will take about 4 to 5 hours and start from John Matte camp to Bujuku camp. The hiking trail follows the Bujuku river into the lower bog where giant lobelias can be seen and also into the upper bog then to Lake Bujuku with views of Mount Baker and Mount Stanley along the way. You will spend the night at Bujuku camp just below the Stuhlmann pass for acclimatization.

Day 6; Bujuku to Kitandara Camp

Your day will start with a hike from Bujuku camp to Kitandara camp for about 5 to 6 hours. This trail will take you through bog, steep slopes and the forest of Groundsel Gully. You will continue the hike to Elena camp through the Scott-Elliot pass where you will also view Lake Bujuku and Mount Speke. You will also go through the alpine zone and the Kitandara lakes and the night will be spent at Kitandara camp.

Day 7; Kitandara to Guy Yeoman

You will wake up and after an early breakfast hike from Kitandara camp to Guy Yeoman camp which takes about 6 to 7 hours. You will ascend to Mount Baker and continue to the fresh field pass where you will be able to see Mount Stanley in the north and also Congo in the west. You will hike through the high alpine moss and descend through steep rocks and the rock shelter at Bujongolo. You will spend the night at guy Yeoman camp.

Day 8; Guy Yeoman to Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija

You will descend from Guy Yeoman camp on this day to Nyakalengija on this day for about 7 to 8 hours. This trail will pass through the cliffs of Kichuchu and crosses the Mubuku river and bamboo forest and you will complete the circuit at Nyabitaba and proceed to Nyakalengija in the evening and your guide will drive you to the hotel in Kasese where you will spend the night.

Day 9; departure

After having breakfast at the hotel in Kasese, your guide will pick you up and you will start the journey back to Kampala where you will be dropped off which will bring the 9 days Rwenzori Hike to an end.
