Safari Overview
This 9 days Rwenzori hike and Bwindi tour will start with a hike on Mount Rwenzori and also a tour in Queen Elizabeth national park and gorilla trekking and a batwa cultural tour in Bwindi national park. This tour will start and also end in Kampala or Entebbe.
9 days Rwenzori hike and Bwindi tour Itinerary
Day 1; pick up and drive to Kasese
Your guide will pick you up from Kampala or Entebbe and you will have a short beefing and start the drive to Kasese where you will check in at the hotel and spend the night.
Day 2; transfer to Rwenzori park and hike to Nyabitaba camp
After breakfast early at the hotel in Kasese, you will be driven to Nyakalengija to begin the Rwenzori hike. You will hike from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba camp for about 5 to 8 hours and spend the night at Nyabitaba hut.
Day 3: Nyabitaba camp to John Matte camp
From Nyabitaba camp you will hike for about 7 to 8 hours to John Matte camp. You will hike through forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, slippery moss-covered rocks, see giant heather, lobelia and groundsel and also view Mount Stanley and Mount Speke. You will spend the night at John Matte camp.
Day 4; John Matte camp to Bujuku camp and return to John Matte camp
The hike on this day will start from John Matte camp to Bujuku camp and back and it will take about 4 to 5 hours. You will follow the Bujuku trail, the lower bigo bog, giant lobelias, tussocks, view the Bujuku lake and also Mount Stanley and Mount Baker. Your night will be spent at John Matte camp.
Day 5; John Matte camp to Nyakalengija camp and transfer to Kasese
After having breakfast at John Matte camp, you will hike for about 5 to 6 hours to Nyakalengija camp with a stop for lunch at Nyabitaba camp. You will descend to Nyakalengija camp where your guide will be waiting to drive you to Kasese where you will spend the night.
Day 6; drive to Queen Elizabeth national park
You will have breakfast at the hotel in Kasese and your guide will drive you to Queen Elizabeth national park where you will engage in a game drive and also a boat ride on the Kazinga channel. You will enjoy seeing wildlife species like elephants, buffalos, antelopes, hippos, lions and many others during your safari in the national park. You will spend the night at the lodge in Queen Elizabeth national park.
Day 7; transfer to Bwindi national park
Breakfast will be served at the lodge and your guide will drive you from Queen Elizabeth national park to Bwindi national park via the ishasha sector which is home to tree climbing lions. You will be driven to the lodge in Bwindi for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8; gorilla trekking and batwa tour
You will have an early breakfast at the lodge and proceed to the Bwindi park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking. You will search for the gorillas in Bwindi forest with ranger guides and spend 1 hour with the gorillas and later return to the lodge. You will also have an optional batwa cultural tour to interact with the locals, learn how to make fire the local way and also enjoy traditional dances.
Day 9; drive to Kampala
After breakfast at the lodge in Bwindi, you will start the journey back to Kampala with a stop at the equator and also for lunch, your guide will drop you off at Entebbe airport or in Kampala which will bring the 9 days Rwenzori hike and Bwindi tour to an end.
